San Pancho 3 March 04

DidnÕt get to take that drive up the hill yesterday cause Porko took a siesta. I really like this town where fisherguys walk to work, where vehicles share the road with children, dogs and horses. This morning Porko picked me up at the playa and while the RV (Puffa Puffa) has her wheel bearings replaced, I had a chance to see his property. Approx 10,000 sq feet it is and rather steep. Think of a "V" as in Valley and both sides of the hill are part of the property. It can be quartered or halved. Two of the four possible lots have great ocean views. The other two need a 2nd floor for the view but all have sunsets. There is plenty of southern light. Back filled retaining walls and support pillars are constructed onto which the "ground" floor and additional stories are built.

Porko and his wife have been raving about how I stayed for "all" the music and that my Liquid Light show was just what the weekend needed. I trained a local teenage girl who took one look at the plates and I saw this look in her eyes and fifteen minutes later, she had it down! A perfect thing to do especially in that this is a festival to highlight the talents of locals. Puerko wants a video projector for next year cause I showed him some of what could be done w/ Arkaos and live feeds.

Estaban very clearly told me last night that that land is "so" valuable (Porko wouldnÕt sell to him or others at that price!) that heÕd be happy to put up money for a piece and the way he said it was like, "Dude, you can get your money back by selling two parcels and keeping one for yourself and you wouldnÕt even have to put up your own cash!"

Dig!

Capitalism can be so appealing.

So, IÕve begun dreaming about what kind of home I could have in around 1200 Š 1500 sq ft w/ an outdoor tiled cooking area, two bedrooms (with rental downstairs) brick vaulted ceiling living room where all rooms would have ocean views. (8 kÕs up the road is a town w/ nothing but hotels along the beach, but this town, ZERO hotels on beach!).

E says weÕve a slew of Humboldt friends who want a piece of this action, and about time he says, as the Mexican government has finally gotten a real good sense of how this coast looks to War Babies and Baby Boomers who are retiring in record numbers w/ lots of cash infused into local economies and everyone is happy.

This town is special cause while the dichotomy between "townies" and "vacationers" or retirees is real, the "actual" income gap is less so cause of the fish and land wealth of the town. I have never been in a Mexican beach town where the locals were so appreciative and supportive of gringos and everyone gets along so swell! Isla Mujeres and Tolum for example on the Carib coast Š the locals hate tourists, itÕs just about the cash exchange. That vibe is not present here!

Hopefully, IÕll be uploading several pages of Journal entries and graphics through PorkoÕs connection this morning after the RV goes to a mechanic ($8 an hour) for front-end wheel bearings. ($65 - $85 an hour at home and their ainÕt nothing wrong w/ Mexican mechanics cause as I well know, thatÕs who kept my vehicles operational in Middletown and SF for years!)

So, I slept in this morn, till 6, and IÕve done Yoga, cleaned the kitchen and the space around my front yard and picked up some garbage from the beach and scored ten liters of water to do a laundry. MC the Real Dog has been fed. The sun is poking through coast haze and the ten-dollar bag (dime bags are here are most alive!) of local "indoe" is worth it and not a dollar more!

Some folks, with whom IÕve shared my art feel itÕs good enough to be printed, framed and hung for a show here. Too bad there isnÕt a gallery in this town. Yet. Perhaps it can be in a couple of rooms of the "museum" that Porko wants to build with the $65K heÕd take while financing the remaining $95K.
